Oyo Gov’t Gives 7-Day Ultimatum To Street Traders

Oyo

The Oyo State Government has imposed a seven-day deadline for tenants and owners of unlawfully constructed kiosks, containers, shanties, and business operations to evacuate the roadside.

Architect Abdulmojeed Mogbojuola, the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, issued the decision during an official visit to Ojoo, Ibadan, and labeled the trend as a major threat to public health.

Mogbojuola claimed that street trading was obstructing the free flow of traffic for pedestrians and vehicles, in violation of the Environmental Sanitation Regulation of 2013.

He highlighted that illicit operations should be stopped, particularly on the drainages held by individuals.

Mogbojuola, on the other hand, suggested that business activities be transferred to more appropriate locations in nearby marketplaces, claiming that this would reduce road accidents and property losses.
