Google has launched new search updates that prioritize user privacy and safety. Last year’s ‘result about you tool’ has been expanded to monitor personal contact information and alert users when it appears on the web, allowing them to request its removal. The tool can be accessed via the Google app or Results about you website. Additionally, Google is simplifying the process of removing personal explicit images from search and locating parental controls through relevant searches such as “Google parental controls.”

Although currently only available in the US and English, Google plans to expand the tool globally and to other languages. It also introduced a new safeguard feature that automatically blurs explicit or graphically violent content in search results as an added measure of protection for users and their families. Removing content from Google Search does not remove it from the web or other search engines, but the company hopes that these updates give users greater control over the privacy of their information on the search engine.

According to Danielle Romain, Google’s Vice President of Trust, the company is planning to release a new dashboard that will inform users when web results with their contact information pop up on the Search. She has stated that it will notify users when new web results containing their contact information show up so that they can have added peace of mind. Earlier, Google had announced an additional safeguard feature that automatically blurs explicit content, including adult and graphic violent content, in Search results.

Romain explained that the new SafeSearch blurring setting will be available globally from this month and that users can adjust or disable it at any time, except for those in a guardian or school network administrator-controlled setting. Additionally, users can enter search queries like ‘Google family link’ or ‘Google parental controls’ to locate parental control settings directly in the Search.
