NDLEA arrests a woman for attempting to smuggle cannabis disguised as African salad

NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized Chidinma Agbazue, a 35-year-old woman, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Agbazue was detained while attempting to ship 20 packets of cannabis sativa weighing 10.70 kilos to Doha, Qatar, expertly disguised in African salad, often known as Abacha, and dried vegetables.

On Thursday, March 28th, NDLEA officers collaborated with men from the Department of State Services (DSS) to intercept Chidinma as she prepared to board a Qatar Airways flight from Lagos to Doha.

The discovery was made during passenger clearance at MMIA’s Terminal 11.

According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA, early investigations revealed that Chidinma, who was stationed in Qatar, returned to Nigeria for Christmas celebrations last December.

According to the statement, the suspect admitted to receiving the illegal shipment while staying at the Club Dice Hotel in Lagos’ Ikotun neighborhood, shortly before her intended departure to Qatar.

In a related event, NDLEA agents apprehended two suspects, Monday Okeke and Chigozie Emeka, on Tuesday, March 26th, in Lagos’ Oniwaya, Yaba, and Agege residential areas.

The agency recovered 842,560 opioid tablets, primarily tramadol, as well as 15 liters of codeine syrup and 596 grams of Molly.

During the arrest, Okeke attempted to bribe NDLEA officials with N5 million in cash, which was quickly turned down.

The money was confiscated and documented as evidence in a legal case against the suspects.
