The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed a tragic incident involving a building collapse in Kuntau Quarters, situated in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano. The collapse occurred in a three-story building that was under construction, resulting in the loss of at least three lives and leaving two individuals injured. The exact cause of the collapse remains unknown.

Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, NEMA’s Kano Territorial Coordinator, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provided details to the distressing event, confirming three persons dead and two injured in the three-story building collapse incident.

“We received a distressed call today at about 9:20 a.m. from a good Samaritan that a three- story building under construction collapsed at Kuntau quarters. On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene.”

”Abdullahi added that the search and rescue operation was still underway to save any individuals trapped in the rubble. The victims, who are suspected to be construction workers were rescued and transported to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, out of which, three were confirmed dead, while two victims sustained injury and are receiving medical treatment.

In the aftermath of the collapse, the search and rescue operation continued unabated, as emergency responders tirelessly worked to locate and extricate any remaining trapped victims. The collaborative effort involved various agencies and organizations, including the Kano State Fire Service, Police, Red Cross, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
