Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives and chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), has chastised Senate President Godswill Akpabio for allegedly using the burial of the late Access Holdings Plc GCEO Herbert Wigwe, wife, and first son as a platform for political attacks on Rivers State governor Siminialayi Fubara.
Ugochinyere’s reaction follows a conversation between Governor Fubara and Akpabio during the Wigwes’ burials in Isiokpo, Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State, on Saturday.
While offering his homage at the burial ceremony, Governor Fubara asked, “What’s the point of all this conflict? What’s the point of killing and burying?”
Later, in an apparent response to Governor Fubara, the Senate President said, “What’s the fight about? I’ll answer you. In 2006, I aspired to be the deputy governor. The then-deputy governor invited me and stated that this office has no funds. There is nothing in it. I’m not sure why you keep insisting on removing me from here and taking control.

“So a woman who accompanied me said, ‘Your Excellency, don’t wait for impeachment; just resign if there’s nothing in it.’ And I answered, ‘Yes, that is why I want it.’ You are too big for it. So, Mr. Fubara, if there’s no point in struggling, don’t.
Hon. Ugochinyere, who represents Imo State’s Ideato North/South federal district, responded to the banter in a statement on Saturday, calling Akpabio’s remark ‘childish and unnecessary’.
He questioned why the Senate President would choose to convert a sorrowful event when a family and friends were mourning such horrible losses into a political rally.
He claimed that Governor Fubara had never disagreed with Akpabio, remembering that despite being a PDP governor, Fubara asked federal lawmakers-elect from his state to vote for Akpabio as Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.
