In a move to acknowledge the ingenuity of Nigerian university students during industrial training, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched the Young Innovative Builders (YIB) program.

The initiative emphasizes the practical application of knowledge, especially in addressing real-world problems.

Applications for the program are open from November 22 to December 6, 2023. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a Nigerian tertiary institution, have developed a tech-enabled solution for real-world issues during their industrial training, and successfully completed the training program.

The Young Innovative Builders program will recognize students across the country in tertiary institutions who have gone through a technology-focused industrial training program. This initiative recognizes the important role of industrial training programs in providing practical experience for the application of knowledge,” states the official release from NCC.

According to the NCC statement, “The top 48 projects in each state and the FCT will be awarded laptops, while the next 40 will receive tablets.

The program’s review committee, consisting of academia, industry experts, the Ministry, and other stakeholders, will evaluate applications using a standard grading system.

The winners, selected by the committee, are set to be announced on December 22, 2023, through official channels.

This recognition adds a significant element to the acknowledgment of the role industrial training plays in fostering practical experience and innovative thinking among Nigerian students.
