Tudun Biri Drone Strikes: 2 Personnel To Be Court Martialed

The Defense Headquarters announced on Thursday that two of its officers involved in the Tudun Biri mistaken air strike in Kaduna State, which resulted in the deaths of over 80 individuals, are “to face a court martial for acts of omission or commission with respect to the incident.”

During a media briefing, the Director of Defense Information (DDI), Major General Edward Buba, disclosed that the Defense Headquarters has formally acknowledged errors in the drone strikes on Tudun Biri community. General Buba noted that a thorough investigation was conducted, leading to disciplinary action against those responsible.

“The affected personnel are to face a court martial for acts of omission or commission regarding the incident. However, I am constrained to provide further details as it may prejudice the court martial proceedings. It must be clarified that the incident was a mistake, as the victims were mistaken for terrorists,” he stated.

The drone strike occurred on December 3, 2023, by the Nigerian Armed Forces on Tudun Biri, Kaduna State, targeting what was believed to be a group of bandits but mistakenly hitting a village, resulting in the deaths of at least 88 civilians.

General Buba reiterated that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria console with the families and loved ones of those killed in the air strike. He expressed hope for no recurrence of strikes on non-combatants in ongoing operations and assured that extra precautions would be taken to ensure the safety of non-combatants in the future.
