Four Nigerian wrestlers have joined world number one Odunayo Adekuoroye in qualifying for the next summer Olympics in Paris by capturing gold medals at the African/Oceania Olympic Qualifiers in Egypt.
Adekuoroye qualified for the Paris Games last year after winning a bronze medal in the women’s 57kg at the World Championships in Belgrade.
She is now joined by Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborududu, who won 2-0 over Palau’s Uilau Tarkong in the 68kg women’s category to secure her place in the Paris Olympics.
The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) said in a press statement released on Sunday by its media assistant, Promise Okotoko, that World Military Champion Hannah Reuben defeated Amy Youin of Ivory Coast 6-0 in 76kg to secure qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics, adding to her African Games gold medal from Accra, Ghana.

Meanwhile, Nigerian male wrestlers will seek to join their female counterparts in securing Olympic slots when they take to the mat later on Sunday, the final day of the qualifying window.
The remaining Olympic spaces will be determined from May 9–12 in the 2024 World Qualification Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey, with three quota places per weight category going to the two highest-ranked wrestlers and the winner of a wrestle-off between two bronze medalists.
