NBA Nigeria Boosts Basketball Ecosystem With Jr. Clinic

The National Basketball Association (NBA) of Nigeria held a Jr. NBA Coaches and Young Clinic to strengthen the local basketball ecosystem and encourage more young participation in the sport.

The weekend event in Ajegunle, often known as “AJ City,” began with a Coaches Clinic for 15 coaches and teachers from Dorcas College, Highstone College, Ravens Basketball Academy, Topfield College, and the BE Programme.

They received training on court sections and effective communication tactics before volunteering at the Jr. NBA Youth Clinic.

The colorful atmosphere, which included 82 eager boys and girls from Dorcas College, Highstone College, Ravens Basketball Academy, and Topsfield College, demonstrated not only a love of the game but also Nigeria’s expanding basketball culture.

Fundamental skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, and defense were taught, giving young players a platform to hone their skills under experienced supervision.

Among the exceptional youth players were the Topfield College basketball teams, whose girls won the Milo National Basketball Championship last year while the males finished fourth.

NBA Nigeria, which opened as the third office in Africa in early 2022, has been instrumental in supporting talent development in the region. The Jr. NBA clinic demonstrates the unique athletic potential of the community and adds to ongoing efforts to develop basketball talent in Nigeria.

Looking ahead, the Jr. NBA will commemorate Indiana’s rich basketball history at the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend with a series of on-court events and off-court activities for children.

The much-anticipated weekend will run from Friday, February 16 to Sunday, February 18, and will include the thrilling Celebrity Game, All-Star Saturday Night, and the 73rd All-Star Game, among other events. Last year’s All-Star Game featured a thrilling halftime show performance with some of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeat stars: Burnaboy, Tems, and Rema.
