Medallion Data Centre Limited, a leading data center operator in Nigeria, has officially rebranded as Digital Realty. This move comes after Digital Realty acquired a majority stake in Medallion in 2021, solidifying its presence in Nigeria.

At the forefront of the Nigerian digital economy,” says Engineer Ikechukwu Nnamani, the Visioner and Founder of Medallion, “Medallion has now been rebranded as Digital Realty. We have made a strategic decision to align with Digital Realty, and we are proud to be part of one of America’s largest public companies.

Before this rebranding, Medallion operated two data centers in Lagos and Abuja, and the official rebranding event took place on October 27, 2023, in Lagos, with key figures from Nigeria’s telecom and IT industry in attendance.

Digital Realty, headquartered in San Francisco, is a real estate investment trust specializing in data centers, colocation, and interconnection solutions. With assets valued at $42 billion in 2023, the company reported $4.9 billion in revenue and $373.3 million in profits.

Mike Hollands, Digital Realty’s Vice President for Market Development, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “It is exciting now that we are able to build and expand on the existing customers and structures to continue to grow and expand the business and to also help make internet infrastructure in Nigeria stronger and better.

Notably, Medallion also recently launched a state-of-the-art data center, LOS2, in Lagos. This facility offers an additional one-megawatt IT capacity and connects with the existing LOS1 data center. It’s a significant move to strengthen Nigeria’s internet infrastructure and connectivity.

The rebranding of Medallion to Digital Realty signifies a crucial step in Digital Realty’s Pan-African expansion strategy. The company has committed to investing over $2 billion in Africa’s technology infrastructure, ultimately enhancing internet access and connectivity for a significant portion of the population.
