Guber Poll: Kogi Government Denies Attacking SDP Witnesses in Election Tribunal

Kogi

The Kogi State Government has refuted what it described as baseless allegations by the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) that it orchestrated attacks on the party’s witnesses at the state’s Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja, claiming that the allegation was not only reckless but also contradicts logic.

The state government stated that, contrary to what it called SDP propaganda, discerning members of the public were following the Tribunal’s proceedings and would know that no one would plot an attack on witnesses who were already testifying against those who paid them to testify, resulting in a disastrous loss for the SDP.

Kingsley Fanwo, the state’s commissioner for information and communications, stated that it was important to inform the SDP that the case at the Election Petitions Tribunal was between parties and that the Kogi State Government, which it accused of attacking witnesses, was not a party to the proceedings.

Fanwo, speaking at a press conference in Lokoja on Saturday, stated that if any attack occurred as claimed by the SDP, “it must have been stage-managed by the SDP to justify their failure to produce the number of witnesses they claimed to have in line with their modus operandi as witnessed during the campaign.”

“Why would anyone try or even attack a witness who has testified against the people who paid him to do so? The discerning public is following the tribunal case and recognizes there is no need to insult witnesses who are doing enough to cause the SDP to lose badly in court,” he continued.

The state administration stated that it was foolish and unfathomable for the SDP to continue to demonstrate anti-democratic tendencies and irritate the people’s sensibilities in such a reckless manner, adding that “if they are so confident in their incompetent petition, why resort to self-help?”

He stated, “We wouldn’t have bothered to respond to the howling of the SDP and its leadership because the state government is preoccupied with governing, but it is critical to set the record straight and educate the public about the SDP’s tradition of lying.

“The governor of Kogi State is a law-abiding gentleman who is working hard to build on the accomplishments of the previous government. He pledged to safeguard all Kogites, regardless of political or religious convictions. His dedication to keeping such promises is unwavering and unbreakable.”

Fanwo asked the people of the state to go about their daily business, saying there would be no possibility for anyone to attack a Kogite and that no stone would be left unturned to ensure peace and security in the state.
