Customs To Train Officers Against Illegal Wildlife Trade

NCS

In its efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade and trafficking, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is finalizing plans to expand capacity building in the area for all officers and men of the service. This comes as a group of international partners, including the United States, has pledged help, particularly in training skills and technology, to improve the facilities on the ground at the Customs Training College in Ikeja.

Leading the partners in an on-the-spot inspection of the college’s facilities yesterday, the commandant, Haniel Hadison, informed the visitors that the facility was ready for their expertise and that they should make it a focal point in capacity building with the established objectives.

He went on to say, “We have officers willing to learn, and we, the management of the college, are also ready to give every support to achieve the set objectives.”

Hadison praised the comptroller-general of customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, and the customs management team for their ongoing support of the wildlife unit.

Responding to questions after the tour, Hadison stated that the NCS, particularly the wildlife unit, is also participating in the United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD) celebration, which is why the college, housing the Nigeria Customs wildlife unit, is hosting unit partners from other international organizations.

“We took advantage of this chance to illustrate how far we’ve come in the fight against wildlife trafficking.”
