Team Nigeria has maintained its push for a strong finish at the ongoing postponed 2023 African Games in Ghana, as Chidi Anthony Okezie and six other Nigerian competitors advanced to the semifinals of their respective sporting disciplines.
Okezie, a US-born sprinter and two-time African Championships bronze medalist, won heat 2 with a season-best time of 45.89 seconds, advancing to the men’s 400m semifinals.
Similarly, Esther Elo Joseph was the fastest woman in the Games’ five 400-meter heats, clocking a lifetime best of 51.81 seconds.

Brittany Aderinola Ogunmokun also advanced to the women’s 400m semifinals after finishing third in heat one and earning an automatic spot.
Wisdom Great Musa again performed admirably in his 110-meter hurdles race, finishing third in his heat and earning automatic qualification to the final in 14.35 seconds (-1.1).
In the men’s 100m sprint, Nigeria’s national champion Usheoritse Itsekiri ran 10.29 seconds to go to the semifinals, while Consider Ekanem ran 10.37 seconds to beat Ghana’s Aggerh Barnabas, who ran 10.42 seconds to finish second.
