William Troost-Ekong, the Super Eagles’ on-field captain, has been named the Best Player of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
On Sunday night, the Nigerian captain outjumped Nottingham Forest’s Serge Aurier to score his third goal of the tournament, giving the Super Eagles a 1-0 lead in the AFCON final.
Ronwen Williams of South Africa received the ‘goalie of the tournament’ title for his heroics in leading the Bafana Bafana to third place, ahead of Nigerian goalie Stanley Nwabali.

Emilo Nsue of Equatorial Guinea won the top goal scorer award after scoring five times in the group stage.
Emerse Fae, the coach of Cote d’Ivoire, won the ‘Coach of the Tournament’ title, while South Africa received the Fair Play award.
William Troost-Ekong, a Super Eagles defender, made bruising tackles, led the defense and team loudly from the back, and even scored for Nigeria, establishing himself as one of the squad’s standout players.
