Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is committed to improving women’s economic progress and unifying their potential for national and global influence.
Mahmoud made this statement publicly at a side event commemorating the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women at 68 in New York, United States of America.
The event, titled “The Abuja Accelerator: Unifying Women for Global Impact,” was hosted by the Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs Secretariat in conjunction with UN Women.
The minister pledged that women’s economic advancement and full potential would be realized through the Abuja Accelerator initiative, which was designed to invest in them to accelerate their progress.
Mahmoud praised ‘unifying women for a global impact’ as a compelling notion that highlights the possibilities for collaboration and solidarity among women around the world.
She went on to say that the Abuja Accelerator programme would be a lighthouse for this ambition, providing a forum for women to come together, share their stories, and amplify their voices in order to effect significant change.
She added that it reflects the idea of empowerment and advancement.
“It provides a forum for women from all backgrounds to gather, exchange ideas, and strategize on how to address urgent issues confronting women worldwide.

The minister also highlighted the Abuja accelerator’s potential to facilitate collaboration among women by bringing together people with diverse perspectives and expertise.
“The accelerator creates fertile ground for innovation and collective action through workshops, seminars, and networking,” she added.
Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi, Mandate Secretary in the Women Affairs Secretariat of the FCT Administration, also promised that FCT women would be empowered through creativity, inspiration, collaboration, and cooperation.
According to Benjamin-Laniyi, the goal of the convergence in New York was to mobilize everyone to join the efforts to raise the voices of FCT women and champion their cause.
She stated that the Abuja Accelerator project was established by her office in accordance with the FCT Minister’s vision and President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
According to her, the goal was to establish a world in which every woman could reach her full potential and no one would be left behind.
“The programme represents a platform for offering solutions to global challenges, from climate change to sustainable development, solutions borne out of our unique perspective and gender experiences,” she went on to explain.
