The increase comes despite continued concerns regarding the exchange rate of the Nigerian naira against other international currencies.

According to an update posted on the Council’s website on Thursday, the higher tariffs are the result of “prevailing market dynamics.”

“The change in fees is due to the evolving market dynamics and increased costs in the delivery of our exams.”

The Council added that the new IELTS exam rates will take effect on March 1.

With the new price adjustment, applicants who want to write IELTS computer academic and general training modules will now pay N266,000, while those who want to write IELTS paper academic and general training modules will pay N256,500; UK visas and immigration (UKVI) applicants will pay N285,500; and IELTS life skills will cost N249,000.

The Council merely raised the price of writing the test by 29% in January, up from the initial N107,500 paid for the test before last month.

The IELTS on computer academic and general training modules were priced at N139,000 in January, while the IELTS on paper academic and general training modules were priced at N134,000. The UKVI was priced at N149,000, life skills at N130,000, and one skill retake (O.S.R.) at N87,570.

IELTS scores are internationally recognized English language examinations for migrants wishing to study abroad and skilled workers looking for work overseas.

The Nigerian government has come under fire for the recent weakness of the Nigerian naira in comparison to other international currencies.
