Ugochinyere praises federal government, Abbas, and Gbajabiamila for included Imo Erosion Site in 2024 budget.

Government

Following months of persistent lobbying and advocacy by Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the member representing Imo State’s Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, the Federal Government has finally captured and included the worsening Umuchima Ideato gully erosion in the 2024 budget and supplementary budget.

The Federal Government is on the verge of granting an intervention project to solve the rising Umuchima erosion problem, pending approval of a detailed work plan.

This program intends to not only halt erosion but also assure the comprehensive completion of the Orlu-Mgbe-Umuchima-Akokwa route, which is currently in disrepair, with homes and lives at risk of being carried away.

While Ugochinyere has lavishly praised President Bola Tinubu, the leadership of the House of Representatives, and other key actors, the lawmaker has also respectfully expressed concern that the allocated funds will be insufficient to deliver a comprehensive intervention and stem the rampant Umuchima gully erosion.

Speaking at his office in Abuja on Monday, Ugochinyere expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Federal Government, particularly the Works Minister, Engr. David Umahi, and the President’s Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, for their prompt assistance to the people of Ideato federal constituency.

He praised the House leadership, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass, and the chairman of the House Appropriation Committee, Hon. Abubakar Bichi, for quickly allocating funding for the intervention project.

He encouraged the Works Minister to use his good offices to speed up the process of awarding the project to a competent construction firm capable of taking immediate action on-site to remedy the deteriorating conditions.

He did, however, highlight the importance of a comprehensive project award to provide a long-term solution to the developing Umuchima gully erosion situation.

This joint effort by the Ideato representative, government officials, and House of Representatives leadership exemplifies a proactive approach to tackling major infrastructure concerns as well as a dedication to the well-being of Imo State’s Ideato Federal Constituency.

The approaching intervention project holds hope for Ideato inhabitants and represents a big step toward minimizing the impact of Umuchima gully erosion in the region.
