Olusanya Olugbolahan, Country Manager at the ABC Cyber Hackathon 2023, emphasized the urgency of building a workforce capable of identifying potential cyber threats. He noted, “As cyber-attacks increase in both number and severity, with organizations lacking adequate prevention strategies, there’s a need to build a workforce proficient in recognizing potential cyber threats.”
Olugbolahan further highlighted Tek Experts’ commitment to skill development in Nigeria’s tech industry, saying, “Over the last five years, Tek Experts has employed over 2,000 talents and trained over 5,000 individuals in the IT sector through Elev8.”
Margaret Olele, CEO of the American Business Council Nigeria (ABC), underscored the organization’s continuous efforts to bolster Africa’s cybersecurity ecosystem and foster global competitiveness. Olele explained, “When we first launched this program three years ago, one of our main goals was to attract and grow cybersecurity experts, but starting from this year, we are keen on building solutions for the voiceless as we all work towards creating awareness on cybersecurity.”
She expressed gratitude to co-organizers Comercio Partners Limited and partners such as the National Talent Export Programme, Cisco, NaijaSecForce, and the United States Agency International Development (USAID) for their contributions in making the first physical ABC Cyber Hackathon in 2023 a reality.
Ultimately, the event signifies the growing significance of cybersecurity in the region and the necessity for a skilled workforce to combat cyber-attacks.
