Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Governor of Benue State, has stated that the state is open for business, asserting that the state’s security issues have been resolved.
The governor made this statement in response to the Governor of the Year award given to him by the Leadership Group.
Hailing the award as a remarkable accomplishment and an indicator that the world is monitoring what happens in the state, the governor said it means a lot to him and even more to the people of Benue State.
He stated, “We need the entire world to come to Benue. We are an agricultural zone. We are farmers, and we need investors. Benue is open for business, and anyone who wants to come in and increase their profits with their own investment is welcome. They can just keep coming in.”
The governor emphasized that the policies implemented by his administration have resulted in an atmosphere of peace in the state and that the people are the first line of security.
He stated, “The invaders, those who are maiming us, committing banditry, attacking and killing us, must recognize that there is a new dawn in the land. We then had to engage in a lot of dialogue, which we will continue to do. I represent peace, and I preach and struggle for its existence.”
The governor mentioned that instability thrived in the state in the past because people profited from it, adding, “People do all kinds of things to get money, even on the blood of human beings.”

He continued, “In my head, it is very clear; the people gave me the mandate to serve them, and I accepted it from the depths of my heart in all humility and humaneness.”
“First and foremost, without a secure environment, we will be unable to prosper economically, commercially, developmentally, and infrastructurally. So we had to return to the fundamental question of how we could maintain the peace we had previously enjoyed. How do we recognize those who profit from other people’s blood? How can we remove the misinformation, deception, and so on? So, once we have recalibrated everything, we will know what work we need to undertake.
“Benue State is a very welcoming place, but if you come to Benue, you must do it with the intention of adding value. If you are an investor, bring whatever product you have, but leave the confusion and insecurity behind since you are coming from a place of calm.
“Again, we have been doing a lot of education; we need to make our people understand that, while they are at the forefront of creating peace, they must also understand that they are the architects who will be the first beneficiaries of the peace that will result from the re-education that we have been doing.
As a result, the state has enjoyed relative calm.
He went on to say that the state granted the invaders a fourteen-day moratorium to see how they would respond.
According to Alia, there is no open grazing law in Benue State. If you have planned ahead of time, your investment will be accepted; otherwise, it will be rejected. You understand that the state has its own interests, and the rule of law must be followed.
“So I’m glad to hear that there was a large influx on the land, but so far, they’ve been returning in droves just as quickly as they arrived. But this does not imply that people are not welcome in Benue State. If you have something credible to give, why not? “You’re very welcome,” he replied.
