The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on Tuesday that it has referred Nigeria and Venezuela to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over alleged noncompliance by their anti-doping agencies with WADA standards.
WADA stated last week that it had submitted “two separate requests for arbitration with the Court of Arbitration for Sport” for the two instances.
In November, the two national agencies were sanctioned for failing to fulfill key “critical requirements” of their anti-doping systems, according to the Montreal-based doping monitor.

As a result, they lost their rights within the organization, including the ability to organize major sporting events and the prohibition on displaying their flags during key competitions, including the Olympic Games, as long as they did not meet WADA’s requirements.
Both national authorities have rejected the allegations against them as well as the recommended punishments.
However, the sanctions against them are effectively suspended until the Court of Arbitration issues its verdict.
