Peter Obi, the Labour Party‘s presidential contender in the 2023 election, has stated that his fight for a better Nigeria will continue throughout his life.
Obi made this statement at a meeting of his fans, known as Obidients, in Abuja to reflect on the 2023 presidential election, which took place one year earlier.
It has been one year since the February 25, 2023, presidential election, when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pronounced Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner.
Dr. Moses Paul, a prominent activist and founder of the Free Nigeria Movement, organized the event, which was held at the Merit House in Abuja and attended by FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe, Prof. Pat Utomi, Aisha Yesufu, Kenneth Okonkwo, Halima Dokubo, Gen. John Enenche, and a host of others.
Addressing the event’s attendees, Peter Obi stated that the journey to a better Nigeria has only just begun and that young Nigerians are eager to reclaim their country from those who see national leadership as a criminal enterprise.
He went on to say that every patriotic Nigerian should view the objective of a new and better Nigeria as an entitlement.
He stated, “For me, the journey to a better Nigeria has only begun. It’s a life-long journey. On that road, hopelessness is not an option. Surrender is not an option. Failure is not a remote possibility. The nation has heard us. The youth have taken on the responsibility of changing their future and the course of our country. They can’t wait to take back their country from those who regard national leadership as a criminal racket.
“We have ignited the flames of patriotism and possibility among our people. That fire will not die or fade out until our goal is attained. Every sincere Nigerian and every patriotic Nigerian must accept the aim of a new and better Nigeria as a given.
“We owe it to ourselves and our children to leave them a better nation, one in which all people have a fair opportunity at available possibilities, regardless of their birth circumstances, race, faith, or gender.

“The resources of our nation should be used to ensure that all of our residents have the opportunity to live a good life. Our land’s wealth should not be the monopoly of a few privileged people but rather the entitlement of all who work hard and aspire honestly.”
Dr. Paul, the event’s organizer, stated that it was organized to recognize and honor individuals who supported Obi before, during, and beyond the 2023 presidential election.
He said, “We are just here to honor those who deserve it. I must confess that the Obedients Movement has more energy than any political party.
“It will interest you to know that we have a large number of obedients in APC, PDP, YPP, and AD. So let us not curse ourselves. An obedient person is not only objective but also determined.
“The spirit of the Obedient Movement transforms everyone into a king. Because you all accepted the burden for the entire nation.
“This is the energy that keeps us going.” What would you say to someone who was burned in Kano on election day? What do you tell someone who was shot in Rivers on election day? How about those who were dragged out of their polling stations in Lagos?
“About nine years ago, I and other individuals went to Rwanda to help them recover from the genocide; I never imagined that people would strap themselves with explosives in my lifetime. In fact, while we sit here, numerous people have been taken into the forest.
“It’s not about our diversity; it’s about how we govern our homes.
“Throughout the 2023 election, we experienced numerous near-death experiences. Unfortunately, many people are no longer around to tell the story.
“That is why we are here today to say that the journey to reclaim our country is not over. We have a strong will. We are obedient, and we will not give up.”
Other speakers at the event were Prof. Pat Utomi, Kenneth Okonkwo, Aisha Yesufu, and others, who all stated that the struggle to retake Nigeria is achievable.
