“According to eyewitness accounts, the explosion was attributed to a cylinder explosion that happened at the melting point area, affecting staff members who sustained injuries,” Odutola said in a press release.
According to the police spokesperson in Ogun, the explosion impacted surrounding houses, with window frames reportedly broken as a result of the blast’s vibration.
She claimed that after the incident, youths in the neighborhood attempted to attack the company, but police officers and an army detachment from the 174th battalion in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, intervened to prevent the situation from escalating into violence.
“The situation is under control and closely monitored; there is no indication for panic, whereas further updates will be communicated to members of the public,” she said.
