Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has condemned the country’s deteriorating security situation, calling abductions of school children intolerable.
Obi described the situation in which Nigerian children will be denied the opportunity to learn in a safe atmosphere due to criminal activity as deplorable.
The former Anambra State governor urged relevant authorities to take appropriate measures to ensure that children attend school in a conducive environment and that citizens can worship their creator and do their businesses without interference.
Obi said on his X handle (previously Twitter): “Just yesterday, I was lamenting the horrible spate of killings, terror attacks, and abductions in the country, while calling for more concerted efforts to combat the menace.”
“We are again confronted with the ugly news of the abduction of over 200 pupils and students plus a teacher of local primary and junior secondary schools in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State.”
The former presidential contender also decried the attack on a mosque in Kaduna on Friday.

He was perplexed as to why Kaduna State, which has the biggest concentration of military and other security agencies in the country, was experiencing the amount of insecurity it is.
“While every effort should be directed towards the safe release of the children, better security measures need to be implemented to avoid future occurrences,” he said.
Obi stated that “insecurity has continued to bear down on every sector of our national existence, and its negative impact on education will be even more devastating to the nation.”
“We already have an army of more than 18 million out-of-school children as a result of school closures owing to insecurity.
“Further attacks on schools will only aggravate these numbers, drive more children into the streets, and add to the insecurity situation in the country,” he said.
The former governor then urged the federal and state governments to take all feasible steps to ensure the safe release of the kidnapped students.
“I urge all Nigerians to continue to work and pray for the country so that we can overcome our issues together.
“We must make certain that every Nigerian youngster may follow their ambitions and aspirations in a safe and secure environment. This is our job in New Nigeria, which is doable,” Obi insisted.
