Former Nigerian international Peter Rufai is glad that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has solved the country’s goalkeeping dilemma following his great performance at the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Remember that Nwabali’s outstanding performances were important in Nigeria’s route to the tournament final, receiving praise from former Super Eagles goalkeeper Rufai, who praised the Chippa United star’s efforts.
In an interview with TVC News Nigeria, the 1994 AFCON winner revealed that after evaluating Nwabali in the first game against Equatorial Guinea, he was impressed by his overall mastery of his 18-yard box.

“My first encounter with Stanley Nwabali came during the first match of the AFCON versus Equatorial Guinea.
“I quickly analyzed his performance, his movement, communication, and poise, and I told myself that Nigeria had solved this problem—the need for a better goalie for the Super Eagles.
“Nwabali in that first match [against Equatorial Guinea] satisfied me, and I was happy with what I saw. Nigerians were happy with what they saw as well, but it didn’t just end there,” he said.
