Leatherback Targets Growth As EFCC Drops Fraud, Misconduct Allegations

Leatherback

Leatherback, a financial services technology company, plans to expand internationally with operations in the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Canada, India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. According to the company’s CEO, Toyeeb Ibrahim Ibitade, this aim is crucial, especially given that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn all allegations of fraud and misconduct against Leatherback.

In November 2023, the EFCC reported that it had been aware of the likelihood of fraudulent activity on the Leatherback platform and its CEO, prompting an investigation into the company’s operations to determine the truth. Leatherback stated that by fully cooperating with the EFCC and working transparently with the organization’s officials to provide a forensic view of its operations, it was able to unequivocally prove its innocence, prompting the EFCC to drop all allegations and remove all previous communications about the matter from its website and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). Leatherback aided the EFCC investigation by making over 5,000 printed papers available to officials to enable as much clarity as possible while also filing suspicious activity reports (SARs) in the UK and Nigeria.
