Kannywood Actress Arrested Over Alleged Bribery in Kano

Amal

Amal Umar, a Kanywood actress, has been charged in Magistrate Court No. 24 in Kano’s Gyadi-Gyadi region for attempting to bribe a law enforcement officer.

The actress was accused of attempting bribery by offering N250,000 to a Nigeria Police Force (NPF) official named ASP Salisu Bujama of the Zone 1 headquarters in Kano State.

According to the prosecution, the suspected bribe was intended to derail a police investigation into alleged financial theft committed by the actress’ boyfriend, Ramadan Inuwa.

On August 18, 2022, Alhaji Yusuf Adamu filed a complaint with the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Umar Mohd Sanda, detailing how Ramadan Inuwa allegedly misappropriated a substantial amount of money, totaling N40 million, in his cell phone business.

The petition prompted the following police investigation, which discovered that Inuwa moved N13 million to Kannywood starlet Amal Umar’s bank account.

According to CSP Bashir Muhammed, a spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force’s Zone 1, Kano, the actress was summoned for questioning and later granted bail, but she was not permitted to depart in a car purportedly purchased by her lover.

The actress admitted that the money in her bank account belonged to her boyfriend, despite her assertion that he only deposited N8 million for her.

Following her release on bail, Amal Umar sought legal remedy by petitioning the Kano State High Court to suspend future police investigations against her. The court’s decision temporarily halted the police investigation into the actress, allegedly giving Amal an opportunity to bribe the police investigator, ASP Salisu Bujama.

The plan was foiled by the police, who arrested the actress and presented proof of the suspected bribery, resulting in her arraignment before the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The alleged infraction committed by the Kannywood starlet is a violation of Section 118 of the Penal Code, which forbids bribery of police officers.
