I’m Getting Back To My Best – Haaland

Haaland

Erling Haaland issued a warning to Manchester City‘s opponents after scoring five goals in their 6-2 FA Cup win against Luton Town on Tuesday, stating he was back to his best and “we’re ready to attack.”

Haaland had only three goals in seven games since returning from a foot injury that sidelined him for more than a month in December and January.

However, the Norwegian striker returned to his prolific form at Kenilworth Road, scoring three goals in the first half and two more after the interval to help City advance to the FA Cup quarterfinals. In doing so, Haaland became the first Premier League player to score five goals in an FA Cup encounter since George Best scored six for Manchester United against Northampton Town back in 1970. “I am getting back to my best,” he told ITV. “I am finally feeling better. It’s an awesome sensation. It is on its way, and so are we. We are in for some exciting days ahead. We are ready to strike.”

It was Haaland’s second five-goal game in a season and a half with City, having done it in a 7-0 Champions League thrashing of RB Leipzig the previous year. The 23-year-old currently has 79 goals in 83 Manchester City games in all competitions.

Haaland’s first four goals against Luton were assisted by Kevin De Bruyne, who has also missed significant amounts of time this season due to injuries.

“It’s a pleasure playing with him,” Haaland continued. “I think we know what we both want from each other; we look at each other, and it clicks well.”

Haaland’s performance and linkup play with De Bruyne will further boost City’s hopes of repeating last season’s treble of titles, which included the Premier League title, FA Cup, and Champions League.

“Erling was on fire, and Kevin was perfect,” Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola remarked. “The connection that they have. Erling needs a player like Kevin, and Kevin requires a player like Erling.”
