In a recent announcement, Google has selected 30 companies worldwide to participate in its AI for Health program. Two Nigerian startups, mDoc and Pharmarun, have secured their spots in this initiative.
mDoc, a digital health company, has been recognized for its specialization in providing virtual self-care health coaching tailored to individuals with chronic health conditions.
Pharmarun, on the other hand, is an on-demand platform that utilizes technology to streamline medication access for the African populace.
This program extends its reach across startups from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with notable representations from Kenya, Rwanda, and Egypt.
Kenya boasts two standout representatives: iZola, an online therapeutics platform designed to assist families with neurodivergent children, and Zuri Health, a provider of affordable healthcare solutions for underserved areas.
Rwanda’s ‘Eden Care’ is making waves by offering seamless digital health insurance coverage to businesses across Africa, while Egypt’s Pharmacy Marts has emerged as another candidate, functioning as a digital marketplace connecting pharmacies and medical suppliers.
Sofia Benjumea, Head of Google for Startups in the EMEA region, emphasized the program’s core objectives, stating, “This dynamic initiative aims to impart AI best practices to startups and forge crucial connections with venture capitalists and industry experts.”
Over the next three months, participants will engage in virtual workshops covering various AI-related topics, receive personalized mentorship, and benefit from technical guidance from Google’s seasoned experts.
Additionally, in-person summits, including the program’s kickoff event in London on September 27 and 28, will facilitate networking opportunities with venture capitalists and fellow AI-focused healthcare founders.
This initiative emphasizes the global trend of startups leveraging AI to reshape the healthcare landscape, from enhancing diagnostic accuracy to pioneering new treatments.
