Pandemonium erupted in Malete, the host community of Kwara State University (KWASU), on Thursday, following a joint sting operation carried out by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents.
On Thursday, 50 individuals were paraded before the EFCC zonal office in Ilorin for alleged computer crimes, including 48 KWASU students.
As of the time of posting this story, neither the EFCC nor the NDLEA had issued an official response to the mayhem in Malete caused by their raid on the student community.

As of the time of publication, neither the EFCC nor the NDLEA have released an official statement about the mayhem produced by their raid on Malete’s student population.
The message read: “Following the turmoil that erupted this evening in Malete, the management of Kwara State University wishes to advise all KWASU students and staff that peace has been restored to the Malete community. As a result, we urge everyone to remain calm and follow the law.
“We also want to clarify that, contrary to social media rumors, no one was shot and no lives were lost during the unrest.
“Management has been in contact with, and will meet with, the EFCC and NDLEA over the arbitrary sting operations against our student body. Management does not condone rough treatment of legitimate students at our great university, and we urge our dear students to maintain the calm and orderly behavior for which our great KWASU is known.
“We are devoted to providing our students with a safe and supportive environment, and we will ensure that they learn, develop, and graduate on time. As a result, the Harmattan semester examinations that are presently underway will continue as planned.
“We urge all Great Kawasusites to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear.”
