The Ministry of Primary Education, Delta State, has shut down the Great Leaders International School, Ime-Obi in Agbor, over the recent alleged defilement of a 4 year old pupil by the proprietor of the school.

The ministry also condemned the incident, which happened in Ika South LGA of the state.

In a statement, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Augustine Oghoro, described the act as “wicked and barbaric.”

The statement wondered why a teacher who is supposed to be a key player in the upbringing of learners in his care should carry out such a dehumanising act.

The statement added that: “The state police command had already swung into action by arresting the suspect, the proprietor of the school , who will face deep consequences of his action to serve as a deterrent to others.”

The statement clarified that the Great Leaders International School was one of the unauthorised schools that had long been shut down by the state primary education ministry.

Police sources in the state had confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

In another development, the state government warned parents to desist from going to schools to molest teachers for disciplining their children.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr Augustine Oghoro, handed down the warning while reacting to the recent incident that occurred in the public secondary school in Agbor where a teacher was attacked by a parent for disciplining his erring son and in the process, the teacher died .

Oghoro, who described the incident as unfortunate and condemnable, berated a similar incident that occurred at Ehwerhe Secondary School, Agbarho, on the October 19 where it was alleged that a group of students led by one Master Oyibo Precious and other students were causing problems for teachers and other students in the school.
