The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) seems to have completely lost both former Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike and former senate president and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),, Anyim Pius Anyim to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), even without their formal resignation from their party and defection to the ruling party
This is even as both parties have listed the former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in it’s governorshiip campaign council for Bayelsa state, ahead of the November 11 governorshiip election.
Though Wike has not formally resigned from the opposition PDP, just as he is yet to declare for APC, he has long avoided the opposition party as he has seized to be attending the party’s functions since his disagreement with them over the outcome of the June 2022 presidential primary, which he lost to the former vice president Atiku Abubakar
The defection may have however become a done deal as the Abdullahi Ganduje-led National Working Committee NWC of the ruling party on Tuesday, listed the two PDP stalwarts as members of the APC campiagn council for the November 11 governorshiip elections in Bayelsa and Imo states
Recall that while former governor Wike got a compensatory ministerial appointment for his role in securing victory for president Bola Tinubu in Rivers state Pius Anyim who lost in his bid to secure the PDP presidential ticket ahead of the last election has had series of visit to the presidential villa, where he has severally met with president Tinubu
While Wike, who is now the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was listed in the123-member Campaign Council for Bayelsa state, which has Gombe state Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya as the chairman the former SGF was named member of Cross River state Governor, Bassey Otu led 138-member Imo Campaign Council
The APC also listed Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state as chairman of the council for zkogi state, which also comprised of 135-members
Other members of the Imo zdtste campaign council included Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha as Co-Chairmen, as well as former Governor To has Okorocha, Uche Nwosu, former Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, Uche Ekwunife as well as Ministers for Industry and Women Affairs Doris Uzoka and Uju Kennedy Ohanenye respectively .
Bayelsa council also has Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Senator George Akume as Co-Chairmen.
