The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has refuted claims by a few unhappy members that Mr. Isaiah Benjamin has been impeached. A statement issued yesterday by SWAN’s national secretariat in Abuja and signed by the association’s secretary-general, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, stated that the NEC did not convene to suspend Benjamin as SWAN President, let alone consider his impeachment.
The statement branded a specific Communique by a few people as meaningless, non-existent, and a mere fantasy, citing the fact that 12 of the 16 members of the NEC as it is currently formed are completely behind the SWAN President. “The National Secretariat of SWAN, with headquarters in Abuja, has issued a clarification to the public to disregard any information not coming from them. Professional SWAN members and the general public should be cautious of those who use the name of the association for fraudulent activities.

“Already, the SWAN National Leadership has contacted relevant enforcement agencies about their activities in order to check them,” the statement went on to say. The statement further urged all SWAN members across the Federation’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to remain focused and carry out their duty without hesitation.
“The SWAN leadership is currently working to organize a formal yearly full council where required debates and decisions will be made as needed. “We also want to take this occasion to salute the tenacity of SWAN executives and members in all states of Nigeria who have refused to be intimidated or derailed. We will undoubtedly continue to live up to the expectation of providing equitable, fair, and just leadership,” the statement concluded.
