Mr. PengChao Zhang, a Chinese national, has been rescued by the Kwara State Police Command after being kidnapped in Eyenkorin, a suburb of the state capital, Ilorin.
Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the state police spokeswoman, said in a statement yesterday that the Chinese national was rescued on Monday by a team from the command and vigilantes.
Gunmen kidnapped the Chinese on March 10, 2024, from a guest house in Eyenkorin.
Ejire-Adeyemi stated that the man had been reunited with his family uninjured and that the success of the rescue operation demonstrated the state police command’s commitment to safeguarding the safety and security of all inhabitants and tourists in the state.

“The Kwara State Police Command is glad to report a major breakthrough in the recent kidnapping incident in Eiyenkorin, Ilorin, Kwara State. On March 10, 2024, six armed men kidnapped Mr. PengChao Zhang (also known as Williams Kaka among his business acquaintances), a Chinese national who was staying at Cherish Guest House Eiyenkorin in Ilorin, causing anxiety and fear among residents.
“Through meticulous and coordinated efforts, the command’s tactical teams and vigilantes conducted a series of strategic searches and investigations that resulted in the victim’s safe rescue in the early hours of March 19, 2024.
“The command is glad to inform you that the victim has been reunited with his family and is uninjured. This achievement demonstrates the Kwara State Police Command’s continuous dedication to safeguarding the safety and security of all citizens and visitors to the state.
“Under the steadfast and good leadership of the commissioner of police, CP Victor Olaiya, the Kwara State Police Command continues to pursue justice and hold those responsible for such criminal crimes accountable. We urge the people to be watchful and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities as soon as possible,” she said.
