In a bid to enhance digital and technical skills among young Nigerians, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) aims to achieve a 70% increase by 2027 through the Federal Government’s 3 million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative.
Dr. Aminu Maida, the NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, shared this optimistic outlook at the City Business News Summit held in Lagos.
Addressing the issue, Maida referred to a survey by GetBundi, indicating that a staggering 85% of more than 100 million young Nigerians lack essential digital skills for lucrative job opportunities.
Emphasizing the significance of the 3MTT program, Maida expressed confidence in its potential to be a transformative force.

“This program, which has already commenced with over 1 million applications from potential trainees, is expected to increase the level of digital and technical skills among Nigerians, especially young and mid-level talents, to 70% by the end of 2027,” noted Maida.
He highlighted the economic implications, foreseeing a heightened contribution to the nation’s economy as empowered youths enter the workforce.
Aligned with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s strategic pillars, Maida underscored the importance of policy, infrastructure, innovation, entrepreneurship, capital, trade, and knowledge.
He explained that this framework aims to position Nigeria globally in key technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, IoT, Robotics, Blockchain, and Additive Manufacturing.
“The vision is, thus, to accelerate the growth of Nigeria as a global technical talent hub and a net exporter of talent,” Maida stated, emphasizing the commitment to creating an enabling environment.
This includes critical infrastructure for a robust digital economy, improved broadband connectivity, and efficient spectrum resource management.
