The police high command announced on Thursday that it has completed its review and will resume issuing tinted glass permits to drivers across the country. The permits were previously suspended.
According to sources, the force gave its personnel a nationwide directive in June 2022 to stop requesting tinted glass permits from drivers, claiming that doing so was unnecessary to prevent harassing law-abiding Nigerians.
However, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force’s spokesman, informed reporters in Abuja that the move was made to improve national security and stop criminal activity that was made easier by the improper usage of tinted glass.
Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said with the proposed lifting of the ban, stringent measures are being implemented to prevent abuse and ensure strict compliance with guidelines governing the issuance and use of tinted glass permits.
He said the ICT analysts and enforcement officers nationwide would undergo comprehensive training on February 29 as a prequel to the reopening of tinted glass permit issuance.
