According to Chief Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine, Nigeria’s entertainment sector is top-notch by all measures.

In the capital of Osogbo, Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke unveiled the voting platform for the Most Popular Celebrity Award.

In an interview with journalists at the Celebrity House in Osogbo, where the festivities were held, Momodu stated that Nollywood and Nigerian music are internationally recognized, and the award will help the sector rise to the top of the list.

“The Nigerian entertainment industry is world-class, it is one that would become number one in the world. So, I am proud of what Osun state has done. Governor Ademola Adeleke is investing in the industry, he is from a family that is into entertainment with the likes of David Adeleke (Davido), Shina Rambo, B-Red among others.

“This project is aimed at producing more of Davidos, B-Reds, not just in the state but also across the country, hence, our decision to support the ambition.

“I urge Nigerians to join the platform and vote for their favourite celebrities. This is an industry that can solve the problem of unemployment if properly supported, it could take our youths out of poverty”, he said.

Declaring the platform open, Governor Adeleke—who was accompanied by Abiodun Ojo, Commissioner for Tourism—said that Osun is a fitting location for the event, citing the state as the birthplace of entertainment with notable figures such as the late Duro Ladipo, Kareem Adepoju (Baba Wande), Yemi Elebuibon, and the current Davido.

“We are introducing another significant event today—a distinguished honor for imaginative thinkers. Through an intriguing development that will produce over 50,000 entrepreneurs nationwide, it is an integrity-laden method that serves as a unifying force to promote the sector.

“This will be an effort to establish a long-term, data-driven national recognition program that will culminate in the awarding of Nigeria’s most popular celebrity in 17 categories for the year 2023.”, he added.
