Following the Osun State Government’s confirmation of Dr. Makinde Ademola Stephen Kayode’s appointment as the new Owa of Igbajo in the Boluwaduro local government area of the state, the monarch-elect commenced the traditional seven-day seclusion ceremonies in the historic town on Wednesday.
Dr. Makinde had already been accepted by the kingmakers in accordance with state chieftaincy legislation and Igbajo tradition.
Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, greeted the new Owa of Igbajo during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting and challenged him to heal the scars of the selection process by establishing an inclusive traditional government.
He stated, “Congratulations to Igbajo’s new Owa. I urge him to begin the process of reconciliation and restore the traditional institution’s dignity and integrity.”
On Tuesday, Oba Makinde arrived in Igbajo in a lengthy convoy of cars, accompanied by both young and old people.
To show their affection for the new monarch, the convoy took over three hours to complete a 15-minute route before he arrived at his destination.
