Moniepoint Group, the parent company of Moniepoint MFB, refutes Educare CEO Alex Onyia’s claim that its system is 95% layered on GTBank’s infrastructure.
In a tweet response, Moniepoint asserts its infrastructure’s independence, emphasizing in-house development and a hybrid cloud architecture.
“Alex, Moniepoint’s infrastructure isn’t layered on any bank, but on our CBA built by engineers in-house with a hybrid cloud architecture,” the company states, adding, “While collaborations happen in the financial services space, and are important, incorrect assertions aren’t good for anyone.”
In his initial tweet, Onyia suggested that Moniepoint relies on GTBank, stating, “Moniepoint main infrastructure is 95% layered on GTBank. While GTBank may be down, Moniepoint will always be stable.”

He further argued that the issue lies with engineers building on the middleware for the bank and urged banks to invest in top-quality engineers.
However, industry experts challenge Onyia’s claim, emphasizing that it would be impossible for Moniepoint to provide seamless service during GTBank’s network issues if it indeed relied on GTBank’s infrastructure.
Adewale Adeoye, an industry engineer, dismisses this notion, stating, “If that was the case, Moniepoint’s customers would be having the same issue as GTBank’s.”
Software engineer Victor Bala concurs, stating, “There is a correspondence banking between Microfinance Banks and Deposit Money Banks, but that doesn’t mean their infrastructure has to be layered on the DMB infrastructure.”
Ultimately, Moniepoint Group’s denial is clear and direct, asserting its infrastructure’s independence from GTBank. Onyia’s claim is disputed by industry experts who argue against the feasibility of Moniepoint’s operations if it indeed relied on GTBank’s infrastructure.
