The Jigawa State Police Command says it has arrested 26 persons for alleged phone snatching, theft, burglary, and drug abuse in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, said this in a statement on Sunday in Dutse.
He said the arrest was sequel to a series of raids between December 18 and December 19 in four local government areas of the state.
The spokesman said that operatives of the command arrested a teenager over alleged phone snatching and N10,000 theft at Babura town in Babura LGA, while two other suspects were nabbed over the alleged theft of six laptop computers and a motorbike in Hadejia.
He said the operatives also arrested a suspect in Kazaure for the alleged theft of two air conditioners, adding that the police arrested 22 other suspects during raids at criminal hideouts in Kiyawa, Burnin Kudu, and Maigatari LGAs between December 17 and December 21.
Shiisu said the police recovered one motorcycle, wraps of Cannabis Sativa, and a number of narcotic substances, among others, during the raids.
“The command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmadu Abdullahi, is warning criminal elements to either repent or stay away from the state.
“As it has since embarked on simultaneous raids on all the identified black spots and criminal hideouts across the state,” he said.
This, he said, would build confidence among residents so that they could go about their lawful businesses and sleep with their two eyes closed.
According to him, the suspects will be charged in court on completion of investigations.
