In today’s competitive employment environment, having a diversified skill set can provide substantial advantages. Women have always played an important role in advancing society and improving its conditions.
However, to fully realize their potential, it is critical to provide them with the required knowledge to increase their economic independence.
From March 5 to March 15, 2024, Ibom Developers made a substantial contribution to women’s entrepreneurship by organizing a skill acquisition workshop for women from Ikot Okwo and Ikot Ikwot communities in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. Over a two-week period at Ikot Okwo Primary School, 170 women received significant training in cooking, packing, hair manufacturing, wigging, ventilating, and styling under the theme ‘Virtuous Women’.
Dignitaries attending the ceremony included Mr. Udo Jonathan Obong, Village Council Secretary of Ikot Okwo Community; Mrs. Ima Sunday Anthony, Women Leader of Ikot Okwo Community; Mrs. Helen Ufot Ibanga, Women Leader of Ikot Ikwot Community; and representatives from Ibom Developers.

Mr. Udo Jonathan Obong, Village Council Secretary of the Ikot Okwo community, praised everyone engaged in the event for their dedication, emphasizing the necessity of empowering women, particularly those in rural communities, for development. “Seeing our women take charge of their journey to self-sufficiency is inspiring,” he said.
Through targeted skill-building activities, women can overcome institutional disparities and obtain access to higher-paying employment, allowing them to claim their due place as leaders and innovators in numerous industries. As empowered individuals, their families will benefit from enhanced financial stability, as they will be better able to contribute to household income and meet the needs of their loved ones.
Mrs. Ima Sunday Anthony, the Women Leader of the Ikot Okwo community, expressed gratitude for the project, stressing the women’s marketable abilities, which she hopes will help break the cycle of poverty and reliance.
“Our confidence as women has significantly improved with the skills we’ve gained; we can now support ourselves and our families,” she said.
Economic empowerment and skill development are critical and effective ways to accelerate progress in any society. Ibom Developers are still committed to boosting women’s empowerment and contributing to the overall progress of the communities they serve.
