HealthLeap, a startup dedicated to improving global health through adequate nutrition, has successfully closed a $1.1 million pre-seed funding round led by Fifty Years, a deep tech investor. Healthleap is a South African startup that works globally.
With this capital infusion, HealthLeap plans to hire software engineers and data scientists to continue developing smart tools that aid clinicians in preventing and treating hospital malnutrition. Founded in April 2021 by Jemima Meyer, Josiah Meyer, and Ray Botha, the company brings together expertise in clinical diets, software engineering, and product management to address the problem of inadequate responses to malnutrition, both in Africa and beyond.
The centrepiece of HealthLeap’s offerings is their AI-based clinical assistant product, NutriLeap, which provides precise energy, protein, and macro needs calculations, smart predictions, secure encryption for patient information, and incorporation of up-to-date clinical guidelines into patient care decisions.
The HealthLeap app has already garnered significant interest, being used by 50 dietitians in a private beta program and amassing a waitlist of nearly 1,000 dietitians, pharmacists, and physicians. While the company ultimately aims to combat malnutrition globally, its current focus is on the U.S., where the adoption of new United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) standards unlocks new possibilities.
The founders of HealthLeap are experts in clinical diets, software engineering, and product management, which has proven successful in building a powerful solution to improve global health through adequate nutrition.
Beyond aiding clinical dietitians, HealthLeap’s platform also helps hospital pharmacists, physicians, and nurses identify patients at risk of malnutrition and provides personalized daily feeding prescriptions, even after patient discharge. With this innovative approach, HealthLeap is making significant strides in the fight against malnutrition and is poised to make a lasting impact on global health.
