The South African tech company, GoMetro, has successfully secured £9 million in Series A funding in a round led by Zenobē Energy, a prominent player in electric transportation financing.

Founded by civil engineer Justin Coetzee, GoMetro’s flagship product, Bridge, consolidates vehicle data to provide a unified platform for efficient fleet management.

Coetzee highlights the company’s evolution from addressing South Africa’s transportation data gaps to becoming a comprehensive SaaS fleet management platform.

The biggest change in the transportation sector is the switch to EVs across the spectrum,” notes Coetzee. “And so we think there’s an incredible opportunity for us to create groundbreaking technology that helps us manage electric buses and trucks better.

With a network of over 15,000 vehicles, including 1,000 electric ones, GoMetro aims to lead in OEM-agnostic EV telematics. Distinguished by its approach, GoMetro allows clients to activate any telematics unit, consolidating fleets into a virtual cloud.

We are excited that African technology has been recognized globally,” says Coetzee. “A market leader in a city like London, renowned for its public transport systems and excellence, has partnered with a technology business based out of Cape Town.

The £9 million funding is earmarked to fortify operations in the U.K., Europe, and South Africa. Expansion plans include entering the U.S., Latin America, and Australia markets, leveraging Zenobē Energy’s substantial presence.

Coetzee also expressed interest in addressing fleet management challenges in the Middle East, specifically in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

As GoMetro allocates the funding towards team growth, distribution, and partner management, Coetzee underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, particularly in advancing electric bus and truck management.

We will use the funding to invest in growing our engineering teams, delivery, and partner management teams,” notes Coetzee.

In the past 12 months, GoMetro has experienced a remarkable doubling of revenue, with plans to triple it by the end of the next fiscal year.
