The Nigerian government has launched the Startup Support and Engagement Portal, a critical component of the Nigeria Startup Act.
The portal, announced by Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, is designed to simplify the registration and interaction of startups, venture capital entities, and innovation hubs.
“The launch of the Startup Support and Engagement Portal will allow us to initiate the process of setting up the startup consultative forums to select representatives to the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” highlighted Dr. Tijani.
This initiative, coming one year after the enactment of the Startup Act by former President Muhammadu Buhari, signifies an effort to drive the identification and aggregation of startups in Nigeria.
The government’s goal is to establish consultative forums that facilitate discourse and consensus among key players in the Nigerian innovation ecosystem.

“We invite all Nigerian startups, venture capital companies, hubs, and innovation centers to register at the portal startup.gov.ng and look forward to working with all industry stakeholders,” urged Dr. Tijani.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration to ensure the full implementation of the Startup Act, bringing tangible benefits to the country’s innovation ecosystem.
Enacted in October 2022, the Nigeria Startup Act outlines specific criteria for startup registration and mandates the creation of the Startup Support and Engagement Portal.
Registered startups gain access to a dedicated seed fund, tax reliefs, and incentives aimed at fostering a conducive environment for growth and development.
“The work is ahead. This announcement by the government is an indication that collaboration is key to sustainable policy development. Beneficiaries must remain engaged,” emphasized Oswald Osaretin Guobadia, the former Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari and lead for the Nigeria Startup Bill.
As Nigeria’s startup ecosystem continues to flourish, the introduction of the Startup Support and Engagement Portal signifies a crucial step towards realizing the Act’s objectives.
