Abuja, August 21, 2023 — In a resolute stance against urban disorder, the newly-inaugurated Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to those flouting the FCT’s master plan. Addressing the media during his inaugural press briefing at the FCT Minister’s office, Wike emphasized his commitment to demolishing all illegal structures, regardless of their owners’ status.
Wike stated, “It is not going to be business as usual. Those distorting Abuja Master Plan: if you build where you are not supposed to, the building will go down. If you build on a green area, sorry, it will go down.”
The minister’s unwavering stance echoes his promise to uphold the city’s integrity. He expressed his dedication to restoring green areas, dismantling unauthorized structures, and enforcing land development agreements. Wike’s pledge extends to reversing the encroachment on public spaces, emphasizing that parks and green areas will be reclaimed.
Furthermore, Wike addressed land racketeering, promising to revoke plots allocated to individuals who failed to develop them, in order to encourage productive land use. He also underscored his commitment to sanitation, traffic management, and improving public transportation.
Wike acknowledged security concerns, vowing to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to cleanse the city of criminal elements. “FCT is supposed to be the safest city in the country,” he asserted.
While his actions are poised to ruffle feathers, Wike made it clear that his mission is to restore the capital’s order and functionality. As the FCT undergoes a revitalization process, the city’s residents can expect a new era of governance under Minister Wike, characterized by a renewed focus on urban planning and adherence to the Abuja Master Plan.
