The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSEIC, has been urged to promptly publish the time-table for the planned local government elections in the state.

Caretaker Committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Tony Okocha, who made the call, said the publication of the timetable was necessary to allow the various political parties that intend to participate in the process to prepare themselves.

He stated this at a meeting in Port Harcourt to ascertain the level of preparedness of RSIEC to conduct the forthcoming local government elections in the state, among other issues.
Speaking to newsmen at the end of the meeting, Okocha commended the Chairman of IPAC and that of RSIEC for the peaceful deliberations an the meeting.

He called on RSIEC to ensure that the local government elections were conducted promptly and in accordance with the constitution of the country, as well as the pronouncements of the Supreme Court against setting up caretaker committees in the councils.

Okocha observed that the tenure of the serving chairmen and councillors in Rivers State would expire soon, and it had become necessary for RSIEC to notify the political parties about the timetable for the elections within the stipulated time.
