Bandits Kidnap Scores Of Worshippers In Zamfara Mosque

Worshippers

Bandits kidnapped scores of worshippers from one of the mosques in Tsafe town, which serves as the headquarters for Zamfara State’s Tsafe local government.

An indigene of the region, only named Malam Garba, stated that the bandits, who were in large numbers, invaded the mosque around 5 a.m. on Thursday, just as the congregants were ready to begin their morning prayers.

He claimed, “We were about to start the morning prayer today, Thursday, when suddenly the bandits entered the mosque and directed everybody to go out and follow them.”

“Everyone scampered for escape, but the bandits blocked everything and threatened us that they would kill anyone who attempted to flee.

“I was able to jump out of the window and run quickly into one of the uncompleted buildings near the mosque, where I hid myself,” he said.

According to him, the criminals parked their motorcycles far away from the mosque so that people would not notice their presence.

“They came on foot, leaving their motorcycles outside the town so that they would not attract the attention of the people in the area,” he said.

Garba stated that the number of abducted worshippers could exceed 30.

He went on to say, “The mosque was full to capacity when the bandits stormed the place, and very few of us were able to escape.”

Also, one of the community leaders, who spoke to our correspondent over the phone on the condition of anonymity, stated that the Community Protection Guards (CPG) have pursued the robbers in an attempt to rescue the kidnapped worshippers.

All attempts to obtain comments from the State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, were futile, since he could not be reached by phone despite repeated attempts.
