Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has disclosed plans to perform the long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge by March or April 2024 in the state.
The governor also said that the bridge will be constructed in phases.
Sanwo-Olu, made the remarks on Thursday, while addressing stakeholders, and residents, among others at the Lagos West Senatorial District Town Hall Meeting, held in Ikeja.
Other personalities at the well-attended event include Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Representative of the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, members of the state executive council, National Assembly members from Lagos, traditional rulers, captain of industries, party chieftains, leaders of Community Development Associations, among others.
The governor said he would like to be remembered along with his deputy, Hamzat for all the interventions implemented when they leave.
Sanwo-Olu said that the state government has done extensive work on the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge, revealing that the government has reached the final dot of the construction of the bridge.
According to him, “We have only a few buildings that would be removed during the construction of the 4th Mainland Bridge and the landlords and tenants that would be affected would be compensated.
“We want to start and do not want to give excuses again.”
Sanwo-Olu also added that N50 billion has been budgeted and would be distributed to support vulnerable residents of the state to cushion the effect of the harsh economy and take people out of poverty as well as support Micro Small Medium Enterprises, MSMEs.
He added that they are committed to building the state bigger and better, stating that “we have been distracted by the court cases.”
The governor, however, seized the occasion to extend an olive branch once again to his opponents who challenged the validity of the 2023 guber poll to come forward to join his administration in taking Lagos to the next level, if the issues were about Lagos progress.
Sanwo-Olu further said that the second term “is a season of doubling-up, working faster, harder to achieve more for the residents of the state.”
The governor noted that though Lagos’s infrastructure gap is huge, they are surmountable.
