A cooking gas explosion occurred last week at No. 1, Odubanwo Street, off Olaniyi Street, Gbinrinmi in Ojokoro LCDA, Lagos, killing three of the five victims.
The victims, who were transported to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja, died on Monday from severe burns sustained during the explosion.
According to reports, a cooking gas cylinder exploded on Sunday, trapping a four-year-old girl, her mother, grandfather, grandmother, and uncle in their flat.
The incident occurred when the grandmother’s oil for frying meat caught fire, and their efforts to contain it became out of control, resulting in an explosion of the cooking gas cylinder.

Faridat Shittu, four years old, was sleeping in the room when the incident occurred. Furthermore, due to the force of the explosion, the entire 14-room structure, including shops, collapsed into debris, leaving over 11 households homeless.
However, a resident, Rahman Olaleye, revealed that the grandmother, the little girl, and her mother perished on Monday as a result of the severe burns experienced during the incident.
According to him, the victims’ corpses have been deposited in the LASUTH mortuary.
“Three of the five victims are now dead. They died on Monday, but Faridat’s grandfather and uncle are responding to therapy. It’s pathetic; we hope the government can help the family’s two remaining members,” Olaleye said.
