Following an unintentional drone attack on December 3, 2023, that left residents of Tudun Biri, Ugara, and Sabon Gida in Kaduna with numerous injuries and fatalities, relief supplies have been provided to 100 households in an effort to improve their standard of living.
According to sources, Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN), in partnership with the World Bank and Society for Family Health, and the Kaduna State Government (KDSG) are carrying out the support.
The beneficiaries were however supported with bags of rice, beans, maize, millet, salt, palm oil, improved potato seedlings, herbicides, pesticides, male and female goats among others.
Speaking to newsmen at the distribution in Tudun Biri community, Dr. Zainab Mohammed Idris Kwaru, project coordinator of ANRiN said the exercise was an emergency response to bring succor to the Tudun Biri community over the unfortunate incident.
Zainab who doubles as the National President-elect of the Medical Women Association in Nigeria, said the support was to ensure they pick up with their livelihood.
She said that the inhabitants were generally farmers, so they came up with the support that will give them immediate needs.
She added that the training for the women who benefited from the seedling will enable them to practice home gardening while the men also needed to re-establish their farming skills.
She explained that after the visit to Tudun Biri by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the World Bank was approached to see what they could do through the ANRiN project.
She urged the beneficiary households to make judicious use of the items, while urging other individuals, corporate bodies and philanthropists to engage in such kinds of gestures for the betterment of less privileged people and humanity at large.
She also urged the KDSG to keep up to the responsibility of providing social amenities especially in communities where they lacked hospitals and schools.
“Based on our assessment, the community lacks a Primary Healthcare center, a Local Education School among others. The community also did not have a water and sanitation facility but thank God, another donor has provided a borehole for the community. I believe the government can do more to help these people.”
The Deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balaraba who was represented by the acting Director, Administration and Finance in the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Fatima Abubakar, said the gesture is in governments resolved to ensure that all donations made in response to the Tudun Biri incident are utilized for their benefit.
She recalled that Governor Una Sani had set up a committee comprising members of the community that will determine the best way to utilize the donations to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries effectively.
