In an exciting event that unfolded at Meadow Hall in Lagos, Africa’s tech ecosystem came together under the banner of Startup Cup 2023.

The tournament, featuring startups such as EightMedical, Spurt!, Moniepoint, Qore, Shuttlers, OmniRetail, Grey, and TradeDepot, took a unique approach to networking and bonding outside the confines of the workplace through football.

Startup Cup aims to bridge the gaps and foster connections among founders, startup employees, investors, and friends of the tech industry, emphasizing the power of football as a unifying force.

As one participant put it, “Few things have the power to bring people together and cultivate a sense of teamwork like the beautiful game of football.

EightMedical emerged as the champions, toppling the defending champions, TradeDepot, who had to settle for second place. Moniepoint secured the third spot.

Notably, Startup Cup isn’t just about the competition; it’s about celebrating excellence and teamwork. As one observer noted, “The tournament provided opportunities for victory beyond these three placements.

Awards were handed out for the best supporters’ group, top goal scorer, Man and Woman of the Tournament, and the best goalkeeper, highlighting that “excellence knows no boundaries in the startup realm.”

Partnerships played a pivotal role in the success of Startup Cup 2023, with sponsors like Mazars, DOA Law, and Duplo being important in bringing the event to life.

Additional partners, including WeTalkSound, Sporting Lagos, Homemade by Eden, Reelfruit, and Lucozade, emphasized the significance of collaboration in building a thriving ecosystem.

As one of the event organizers stressed, “Startup Cup 2023 demonstrated once again that collaboration is key to creating a thriving ecosystem.

Startup Cup continues to be a platform where tech meets teamwork on the football field, and the future holds even more promise. For those looking to get involved in the next edition, whether as a participating team, sponsor, or service partner, the opportunity is open through the link.
